Please note:
Ruger has statrted
production of the 77/44 again. We will not stock host rifles, but will
suppress any 77/44 you send us.
Also, as
an alternative, may we suggest that you consider a .45 ACP AR-15, or
Thompson Center Encore, If
you already have an AR-15, .45 ACP uppers are readily available, and we
will integrally suppress the upper for you. Same 120 db or less sound
signature.
The 77/44
is an excellent choice for serious animal control work at shorter
ranges (Animal Control departments especially have found the gun
excellent for dispatching wounded large game, and elimination
of feral hogs and canines), and is an excellent choice for tactical
or military use where heavy subsonic projectiles are needed at
ranges that exceed the capability of a suppressed handgun.
Engel Ballistic Research 265 grain and 300 grain
.44 magnum cases subsonic ammo
at 1000 FPS is availble from SRT for serious work, or handload 185 gr
or 210 gr
plinking loads for quiet casual target shooting. As an example
of how quiet it is, you could set up a range in your basement
(where the law allows), and no one upstairs will hear a thing
when you are shooting.
This is the
quietest 77/44 currently available that we know of, and has higher
bullet velocties, and thus better terminal ballistics than any
of our competition. The tensioned barrel design, as is used in
all of our integral guns, offers superior accuracy when used with Engel
Ballstic Research .44 magnum 270 grain Subsonic ammo. Typical bullet
velocity is 90%+ of a similar round fired from an unsupressed
Ruger 77/44, and is higher than competitors models.
The
suppressor tube is 1.5”
OD by about 17” long. The suppressed gun is only about 1"
longer than a factory gun. A 4X Simmons .22MAG scope using
extra tall Ruger scope rings is a nice scope choice, and is optional.
This suppressed 77/44 has similar weight and handling characteristcs
to an unmodified rifle.
We recommend an optional Douglas Match barrel
in a special 11:1 twist rate for improved accuracy over the
factory
Ruger barrel when using subsonic loads. Engel Ballistic Research has
developed a special subsonic 265 grain round for this rifle/barrel
combination that typically delivers ~ MOA accuracy at 100
yards. The Douglas barrel can be chambered in either .44 Magnum
or .44 Special, depending on your requirements.
A typical group size with the EBR subsonic with
the factory Ruger barrel is 1.5" at 50 yards. Upgrading to the
Douglas barrel usually reduces the group size by about 1/2 .
All suppressor
tubes are finished with Mil-Spec flat black baked phenolic resin.
